Tek Experts Continues its Partnership with Microsoft to Employ More Women in Tech

At Tek Experts, we’re focused on ensuring equal representation and opportunities are available for everyone. Statistics show there are still fewer women with careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), and Tek Experts is committed to help bridge this gap.

Understanding the challenges women face in STEM

According to Accenture, only 8% of women of color believe the technology industry is a place where they will thrive. Closing the gender gap within the tech industry is no small task, however, it comes with great reward. Being proactive is key and organizations should create opportunities instead of waiting for them to appear. To attract more women to career in STEM, organizations need to be intentional about inclusion and diversity and show how they can be a place for women to grow and develop. Providing access to training and skilling development programs will help set the intellectual stage for women to truly see themselves in technical roles.

Microsoft Leap: bridging the gender gap in IT

Tek Experts has partnered with Microsoft since 2019 to support women in the IT industry through the Microsoft Leap Apprenticeship Program. This non-traditional training initiative prepares promising talent for the industry through an immersive 16-week apprenticeship.

This month, we are kicking-off the third cohort of the program where forty-five young women will be immersed in curriculum geared to set them up for success. The program involves four weeks of classroom training in Technical Software Support Engineering and 12 weeks of hands-on project training involving real-life scenarios at Tek Experts offices around the world.

The program will run from April 2022 to July 2022 across Tek Experts locations in Nigeria, Rwanda, and Bulgaria. Tek Experts recognizes that creating an environment for women to thrive involves encouragement, hands-on tech training, mentorship, and sponsorship. Selected participants will receive the required skillsets and experiences to thrive in the technology industry.
