About the role...

As Global Commercial Legal Counsel you will have a varied global remit, supporting the needs of our worldwide operations. 

Working with the Global Procurement Team, reporting to the Head of Procurement, you will work across a range of commercial legal transactions and negotiations. A skilled and efficient communicator, you will be responsible for responding to legal enquiries and requests from across the business, summarizing and communicating risks and identifying compliance requirements, such as data protection, to ensure liability is minimized. 

You will be responsible for monitoring and managing compliance, conducting legal research and evaluating risk factors to ensure compliance of the procurement legal portfolio across all Group sites. You will be an influential and credible advisor to stakeholders across the business, collaborating with the Global Legal Team on a variety of projects and strategic initiatives that relate to commercial transactions.

What you’ll be doing

    • Working on all types of vendor contracts (services or products) and/or group templates,
    • Reviewing and dealing with procurement contracts, identifying legal risks in relation to the commercial terms negotiated by the procurement team
    • Responding promptly to internal department requests, summarizing and communicating legal risks while allowing a balance of risk that conforms to the Group’s business objectives
    • Regularly monitoring and managing compliance of procurement legal portfolio across all Group sites
    • Providing general legal advice and counsel to business teams on legal solutions relating to all aspects of the Group’s commercial agreements
    • Conducting legal research and evaluation of different risk factors regarding business decisions and operations
    • Occasional travel to various site locations, as needed 
    • Additional duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the business.

What you'll need

Qualifications:
  • Law degree with strong academic credentials (preferably UK/US)
  • A Master’s degree is highly desirable 
  • Licensed practitioner in the UK/EU.
Skills:
  • Exceptional written English skills, with the ability to review and draft commercial agreements in English 
  • Well-developed communication skills and the ability to concisely relay large amounts of information
  • The ability to work from standard templates, review third party contracts and creatively draft new wording as necessary
  • Commercial acumen to identify commercial and legal risks, and an innovative approach to identifying appropriate legal solutions
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills with the capacity to simultaneously handle a variety of complex matters under strict deadlines and pressure
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to form strong working relationships with global teams while maintaining firm adherence to legal standards
  • Experience working for international companies, supporting global teams
  • A team-focused mindset and the ability to work as part of a project team structure.
Experience:
  • 5 - 8 years’ experience in private legal practice, preferably in a medium-to-large size law firm, advising local and multinational corporations, specifically related to general contract and commercial law
  • A strong commercial background with proven experience in various commercial transactions, including, supply agreements (products and services), purchase agreements, service agreements
  • A wealth of experience in legal negotiation and the conclusion of commercial transactions
  • Deep understanding of general contract law, general commercial law, data protection law, insurance requirements, IP protection (where necessary), limitations of liability, insurance, general understanding of dispute resolution
  • Experience in general dispute resolution will be an advantage
  • Experience as an in-house counsel in an international company is preferred.
