Why Data Protector

Artículos

With Big Data having a massive impact on the way companies do business it’s become an increasingly transformational subject for IT departments across the world. How IT leaders manage this challenge can have a significant impact on the tactical and strategic performance of an organization.

As Big Data becomes increasingly critical so does security. If you are a financial company that enables users to manage their bank accounts or investments directly, it is critical that your users are able to access their account and perform transactions 24/7 and know they are doing so safely. The same applies if you are in insurance or even aviation. Services can rely on tens, hundreds or even more components, including servers, network devices, storage devices, load balancers and many more—and they are all interconnected, meaning security is very much a priority.

HP has been at the forefront of this activity for more than 20 years and has more than 45,000 customers worldwide, including nearly half the Global 500. So here we explore why companies consider Data Protector to be the product of choice.

  • Performance. One single instance of Data Protector is ready and able to protect hundreds of billions of files every day and can manage 140 terabytes per hour, making it more than capable of managing the data requirements of any company. What’s more it’s very flexible with various models and capacity offerings meaning companies can chose the one that’s right for them.
  • Although HP has a cloud back up available as part of Data Protector, companies can use it in the real world and when demand dictates take their information to the cloud. In fact the range of options available means it’s suitable for small starts-ups with limited data demands to massive global corporates handing billions of data sets every day.
  • You can start with a single server with a tape drive and, as demand dictates move to a multi-server environment with de-duplication and cross-site, low-traffic replication. It also provides cross-platform backup of file systems, databases, virtual environments, mail servers and more.
  • With Data Protector you easily backup and restore many online applications from single centralized locations such as Virtualization (Hyper-V, VMWare, Citrix), Databases (Oracle, MSSQL, DB2), MS Exchange, MS SharePoint, IBM Notes, IBM Domino and more. Your applications can be recovered almost immediately using up-to-the-second application recovery meaning business critical applications easily restored.
  • Once set-up the software can be left unattended and where errors or attention are required, it will automatically send a notification. This system can also be integrated into many ticketing systems so if an error does occur then a ticket can be automatically raised and sent to the appropriate team for resolution.
  • The Data Protector Cloud Backup enables backup administrators to manage backup and recovery operations as well as provides access to scalable cloud-based data protection resources. The integrated cloud capability brings the power and simplicity of cloud-based backup to the traditional data center. The process is simple and very easy to use; it’s done literally within a few clicks and all within the same graphical user interphase.
  • Data Protector 9.03 is capable of backing up the latest Microsoft Exchange 2013, including Mailbox and Public Folder Databases. Additionally, VMware virtual machines VDDK disks backed up using Data Protector can take advantage of the VMware Web Client to do Granular recoveries using the HP Data Protector VMware Granular Recovery Extension. This allows IT admins to have even stronger recovery capabilities, while the non-staged recovery allow the GRE administrators to restore from the backed up VDDK directly reducing time and costs.

Obviously there are other products out there that can do a similar job, but if we’re honest Data Protector takes some beating.
